Qld: Freak hovercraft accident in Hervey Bay
BRISBANE, Aug 3 AAP - A man suffered chest injuries today after a freak hovercraftaccident in south-east Queensland.
Police said the accident occurred at about 1.30pm (AEST) near Hervey Bay when the hovercraft'sskirt blew out while the vehicle was travelling at about 80 kph.
The mishap caused the privately-owned recreational craft to nosedive - throwing thedriver and his two passengers into the water.
Before hitting the water the driver was thrown against the hovercraft's handlebars,causing severe bruising and rib damage.
He is in a stable condition at Hervey Bay Hospital.
No-one else was injured in the incident.
Police said the vessel's throttle was damaged, causing it to speed unmanned in circlesuntil it ran out of fuel.
