* Russia agrees to accept Western aid to help rescue the 116 trapped submariners, but
a British rescue team may not arrive in time.

* A former British submarine commander says the British mini-sub should succeed in
rescuing the trapped Russians if it arrives in time.

* Family and Community Services Minister Jocelyn Newman says family benefits will not
be cut as part of the government's welfare reform. Interview with Senator Newman.
