FED:SA govt better with indep deal: Rann=2

Associate Professor Haydon Manning, of Flinders University's politics department, said
he was not sure that what had worked for Mr Rann would translate to the federal arena.

"I don't know how big the analogies are between the state situation and the federal,"

Prof Manning told AAP.

"He did manage to bring stability to the government here and he worked it very well.

"I am not sure a national government can cope for very long being on a knife edge in
terms of numbers on the floor of parliament.

"Besides the policy issues of the day, and the senate being hostile to an Abbott government,
you've got other issues of MPs being sick and not being able to get to parliament.

"I see a very rocky road ahead, quite frankly," he said.
